Washington, DC to Hershey

March 8-11, 2009
David has a yearly meeting near Hershey, PA. and it has become a fun trip for all of us to go along. On our way we decided to stop in Washington, DC for a day of site seeing. Josie's class has been learning about Presidents and she was very excited when we surprised her with a stop in Washington. On Sunday afternoon we visited the Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Memorial and WWII Memorial. Talton was very impressed with Lincoln sitting in his big chair! His eyes were huge as he said "where are we?" We found a Correll on the wall and traced his name. He is not related to us but had the same initials as Josie (JCC) and she was excited to trace his name. The kids got to run around near the WWII memorial and just had fun on a 75degree March day!

On Monday we visited the White House visitors center and then took pictures in front of the actual house. Josie was less impressed than we thought she would be. It doesn't look as grand because you have to be so far away and trees block part of the view. It was hard for a 5 year old to get the whole picture! She did let us know her White House knowledge by telling us not all Presidents lived there because it wasn't built yet for the first several Presidents:-) Our other stop was to see the dinosaur bones at the Smithsonian. Talton was once again VERY impressed! He had a great time checking out all the different dinosaurs. To add to our excitement, Josie fell from a chair at the Smithsonian Cafe' and had to have stitches! Needless to say that was one of the first things she tells everyone about the trip.

Monday night we visited our friends The Morris'. Brock and Jenna are twins and Josie and Talton were so excited to have their annual visit. Unfortunately, Jenna was not feeling well and wasn't up to playing. Talton and Brock played tractors and had a great time.

On Tuesday and Wednesday we visited Chocolate World in Hershey. Josie and Talton both love the ride thru the factor as well as "working" as factory workers. They had a great time!

We drove all 8 hours home Wednesday night. It is a long trip in a short time frame!! Definitely not a vacation but GREAT FUN!

Planting Spring Greens

Saturday, March 7, 2009

On this beautiful Spring day, Josie and Talton "helped" plant some of the lettuces and other greens. Jesus and Pedro did most of the work with special help from Talton. Josie was so tired she had to take a rest. We can't wait for all the plants to grow large enough to eat!

BaBa Black Sheep

The first lambs born this year.
They require lots of special attention while their mama Blueberry recovers from a c-section at the vet hospital. Today, a day after the surgery, mama & babies are settling in together for their first night as a family. We certainly hope Blueberry and little Raspberry (girl) and Blackberry (boy) all do well.

Snow Day!

We never thought the weather man would be right this time!
This morning we woke up to 7 inches of beautiful snow.
Talton and Josie had a great time running, making snowballs and playing.
In the afternoon we made a snowman.
Their first big snow was a Big Hit:-)

The Circus

Last week we went to Greensboro for the Circus.
Josie & Tatlon LOVED the show.

Chapel

Josie attends Salisbury Academy and they have a
weekly chapel service.
Last week, Josie's class shared a special song during chapel.
She is on the right in a pink & black dress.

Sheep

We started out with one ewe lamb name Barbie for Josie to show.
Then learned that sheep don't like to be alone.
So, we got Barbie a friend we named Bella. That was several years ago, Josie really enjoyed working with them and showing...so we all got involved.
David got the "sheep bug" and is now very involved. Barbie & Bella
both had twins last year. We kept 2 more ewe lambs-Tulip & Mariposa. Now, with all these ewes (David got one named Meggie for Christmas) we had to have a Ram. So, we are in partnership with several others and Wally the Ram has been here on the farm since October. Our partnership is called Black Sheep Club Lambs and we'd love to set everyone up with a good show lamb!
With more youth becoming involved, David and our Livestock Agent and good friend Brad Johnson started a Junior Sheparding Club. They meet monthly here at the house.
Needless to say we don't do things half way. That is why it is the Funny Farm!

If all goes as planned, we'll have babies beginning in a few weeks.
