Washington, DC to Hershey

March 8-11, 2009
David has a yearly meeting near Hershey, PA. and it has become a fun trip for all of us to go along. On our way we decided to stop in Washington, DC for a day of site seeing. Josie's class has been learning about Presidents and she was very excited when we surprised her with a stop in Washington. On Sunday afternoon we visited the Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Memorial and WWII Memorial. Talton was very impressed with Lincoln sitting in his big chair! His eyes were huge as he said "where are we?" We found a Correll on the wall and traced his name. He is not related to us but had the same initials as Josie (JCC) and she was excited to trace his name. The kids got to run around near the WWII memorial and just had fun on a 75degree March day!

On Monday we visited the White House visitors center and then took pictures in front of the actual house. Josie was less impressed than we thought she would be. It doesn't look as grand because you have to be so far away and trees block part of the view. It was hard for a 5 year old to get the whole picture! She did let us know her White House knowledge by telling us not all Presidents lived there because it wasn't built yet for the first several Presidents:-) Our other stop was to see the dinosaur bones at the Smithsonian. Talton was once again VERY impressed! He had a great time checking out all the different dinosaurs. To add to our excitement, Josie fell from a chair at the Smithsonian Cafe' and had to have stitches! Needless to say that was one of the first things she tells everyone about the trip.

Monday night we visited our friends The Morris'. Brock and Jenna are twins and Josie and Talton were so excited to have their annual visit. Unfortunately, Jenna was not feeling well and wasn't up to playing. Talton and Brock played tractors and had a great time.

On Tuesday and Wednesday we visited Chocolate World in Hershey. Josie and Talton both love the ride thru the factor as well as "working" as factory workers. They had a great time!

We drove all 8 hours home Wednesday night. It is a long trip in a short time frame!! Definitely not a vacation but GREAT FUN!
